Benalmádena Costa, as the name suggest is the 10km coastal strip of Benalmádena municipal district. Benalmádena Costa runs along the sea front between Torremolinos and Fuengirola.

The population of nearly seventy thousand is concentrated in three main centres: Benalmádena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa.

Situated between the towns of Torremolinos and Fuengirola, Benalmádena is just 19 kilometres from Málaga Airport and is connected to all of the coast’s major resorts by the local train and bus services.

Rich in beautiful and attractive beaches, gardens, theme parks and a stunning marina, Benalmádena is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the Costa del Sol.

It is one of the most cosmopolitan areas on the coast and famed for an abundance of British bars and restaurants. The heart of the resort is the extensively equipped Puerto Marina and there one will find dozens of restaurants and bars serving food from all corners of the world. One will be spoilt for choice in the Marina, there are steak houses, pasta and pizza trattorias and noodle bars mixed with traditional fish and seafood restaurants.

A product of the tourist boom in the 1960s, Torremolinos began as a small fishing village to a large, densely-populated town dedicated entirely to sun and sand tourism. Torremolinos showcases large beaches with various related facilities and services.

The famous Pimentel Tower is the town’s most significant monument and serves as an icon, with some traces of the past still visible around the areas of La Carihuela and Bajondillo districts.

The origins and name of the town derive from a watchtower (torre) and the mills (molinos) built there to grind wheat, positioned perpendicularly to the ocean in order to harness the hydraulic power generated by the water flowing into it.

During the second half of the 20th century, Torremolinos has changed significantly with regards to the population’s lifestyle and economic activities when the progressive development of tourism that had begun which created a transformation that turned the town into one of today’s best-known holiday resorts.

Located just 17 kilometers from the city of Málaga and right next to the attractive neighboring resort town of Benalmádena is the wonderful town of Torremolinos. This town has a happy, quirky, fun atmosphere and appeals to both young and old visitors.

The main pedestrianised street of Calle San Miguel, is where shops line up to sell you goods of all kinds. There you can find an abundance of shops, cafes and boutiques perfect for gifts and souvenirs.

The seafront promenade of Torremolinos stretches all the way to Benalmádena and makes for a pleasant stroll any time of the day and night, where you pass the old fishing village of La Carihuela, another neighborhood of the town.

As the years go by, Torremolinos has evolved as an attractive and appealing resort, noted for its clean sandy beaches, wide choice of hotels and restaurants and unparalleled variety of entertainment, activities and nightlife available.

Marbella is located on the shores of the Mediterranean, between Málaga and the Strait of Gibraltar, and at the foot of the Sierra Blanca. It is a city and municipality in southern Spain, belonging to the province of Málaga, in Andalucía.

It is the second most populated municipality in the province and seventh in Andalucía in the year 2020 according to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística. Furthermore, it is one of the most important tourist cities on Costa del Sol and in all of Spain. Most of the year it is a center of attraction for international tourism thanks mainly to its climate and its tourist infrastructures. The city also has a significant archaeological heritage, several museums and performance spaces as well as cultural calendar with events ranging from reggae to the opera.

Home to Renaissance-era whitewashed buildings, flower-draped balconies, and narrow, winding alleys, the Old Town is a must visit in Marbella that showcases tons of history, religion, art and beauty. The ancient city walls that retained nearly the same layout as in the 16th century. The Plaza de los Naranjos attracts visitors with its fragrant orange trees.

Marbella has indeed experienced continuous growth throughout the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, developing an economy based on the tourist offers aimed at visitors and temporary residents of medium and high purchasing power.

this is the walk including all the steps from where you get off the bus down to the front, if your going to do this walk check this out you may be suprised at how may steps there are.
we managed to pick the hotest day of our holiday to do this which resulted in quite a few stops for …..erm refreshments

Torremolinos celebrate Holland Day with gastronomy and typical musical performances

La plaza Chiriva de la Carihuela will host the celebration of Koningsdag or Holland Day in April, a festival that reaches its eighth edition and is dedicated to Dutch culture and gastronomy. A day that has been presented by the mayor, Margarita del Cid, along with the events councillor, José Manuel Ruiz Rivas, and the president of the Dutch Community of Torremolinos, Sergio Effendi.

“The numbers demonstrate the importance of this community within Torremolinos, with over 700 registered residents as of today, representing a growth of more than 20 percent in just one year. Additionally, recently the council approved the naming of one of the passages in La Carihuela as Kingdom of Holland; and a few months ago we inaugurated another passage leading to Isabel Manoja and named it after our beloved pianist Pía Beck,” stated the mayor.

The Mediterranean resort town of Torremolinos in southern Spain’s Costa del Sol region is a sunseeker’s haven. In the 1950s, this former fishing village became one of the most popular destinations for sun-loving tourists. Stretches of dark, sandy beaches offer a multitude of watersports and beach activities, while the many bars, restaurants and local sights occupy holidaymakers.

Boasting an enviable mix of green spaces, cultural sights and coastal views, Torremolinos is an ideal destination for your next summer holiday. More than just warm Mediterranean coastline, the resort region has a rich blend of family activities as well as a beating nightlife for young travellers.

Torremolinos, just south of the central city of Malaga, has many amazing seafood restaurants and hotels along the waterfront La Carihuela village. The pedestrian-only Calle San Miguel is a bustling shopping district that leads directly to Playa Bajondillo.

Discover the bustling centre of Torremolinos Old Town that stretches from the seafront promenade. Starting along the section known as Paseo Maritimo del Bajondillo, make your way in toward the oldest section of the town to stroll along the pedestrianised Calle San Miguel. It’s lined with restaurants and bars, as well as shops ranging from jewellers and fashion boutiques to souvenir stores and delicatessens.

As you meander the streets, you’ll also cross paths with Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, an 18th-century Andalusian neoclassical-style church in a small square at the end of Calle San Miguel. Another historical point of interest is the only remaining trace of Torre de Pimentel (Tower of the Mills), which dates back to the 1300s.

Pedregalejo is one of the most traditional fishing neighborhoods in Málaga. You will see many old wooden fishing boats on the beach. These boats, along with the fact that there are no tall buildings in the vicinity, add to Pedregalejo’s charm.

Definitely, although the center of Málaga is only a few kilometers away, the atmosphere in Pedregalejo is much more rural and relaxed.

The fact that there is such a fishing tradition also means that Pedregalejo is famous for its fresh fish and seafood. The seafront is lined with restaurants grilling espetos (sardine skewers).

You can see them cooking right on the beach in small boat-shaped barbecues. Although the most typical skewers are sardine skewers, there are also meat, chorizo ​​and vegetable skewers.

Pedregalejo beach, on the other hand, offers a quieter and more rural atmosphere than the busier urban beaches in Málaga such as La Malagueta . There are six small bays that form breakwaters, making the conditions perfect for swimming.

But probably one of the most important attractions of Pedregalejo is the great variety of restaurants along the promenade. Be sure to try the sardine skewers that are grilled right on the beach.

Although it is quieter, Pedregalejo beach still offers many of the services and facilities that can be expected from any urban beach. There are lifeguards, showers, beach bars and sun loungers/umbrellas for rent.

Thanks to the six artificial bays, Pedregalejo beach is very peaceful. The only exception is when the ferry from Melilla passes by which causes what the locals call “the wave of Melillero”.

When this huge ferry passes, the tide rises rapidly and the water reaches a large part of the beach. So if you see the ferry go by, make sure your towels and belongings don’t get wet.

Fuengirola is one of the coastal towns with the best infrastructure on the Costa del Sol, and a fantastic destination if you are traveling with your family. In addition to having a series of wide sandy beaches along its seven kilometers of coastline, it also offers a zoo, a water park and a mini-amusement park near the city for the little ones to have a great time.

The beautiful promenade that separates the sandy beaches of Fuengirola and the city’s coastal road is not usually very crowded. Paved with its characteristic bricks, it is one of the longest promenades in Spain. It has an extension of seven kilometers that occupies most of the coast of the city, with fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea. You can easily access any area of the beach, as well as the bars and restaurants along the promenade, which also has a bike lane shaded by rows of palm trees.

Fuengirola has large white sand beaches. Each of them offers a large area for sunbathing next to the Mediterranean Sea. In front of the Sohail castle, for example, you will find a beach that is usually quite calm. If you continue along the promenade, you will reach the beaches of Santa Amalia, the popular San Francisco, Los Boliches and Torreblanca, each of which has sun loungers and beach bars on the sand, as well as a good range of water activities.

In the Fuengirola marina you will find a variety of bars in which to hang out. During the summer months, especially on weekend afternoons, you are likely to see street musicians playing in this square.
