When the sun goes down, Torremolinos comes alive. Whether you’re visiting in the height of summer or during the quieter winter months, the town offers a vibrant nightlife scene with something for everyone. That said, July and August are when the atmosphere is at its liveliest, as the population swells with holidaymakers eager to make the most of the warm Mediterranean nights.

A typical evening often begins with dinner or a leisurely tapas crawl before moving on to the town’s many pubs, bars, nightclubs, and stylish beach clubs dotted along the Costa del Sol. While the iconic Pueblo Blanco was once the heart of Torremolinos’ nightlife, today’s hotspots are concentrated along the seafront and around La Nogalera, the town’s famous LGBTQ+ district, known for its welcoming atmosphere and energetic mix of bars and clubs.

One of Torremolinos’ biggest strengths is its cosmopolitan character. You can enjoy everything from traditional Spanish bars and friendly British pubs with live music to buzzing nightclubs featuring international DJs and beachfront venues hosting themed parties until the early hours. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed drink, live entertainment, or a night of dancing, there’s no shortage of options to suit every style and age.

If you’re after a classic British pub experience, head to Plaza de la Independencia and Plaza de la Unión Europea, while Plaza Costa del Sol is home to several popular Spanish bars where you can soak up the local atmosphere before continuing your night out.

Set between Málaga and Marbella, Fuengirola is one of the Costa del Sol’s most vibrant seaside destinations. Renowned for its year-round sunshine, seven kilometres of golden sandy beaches, and lively atmosphere, it attracts families, couples, and visitors looking for the perfect blend of relaxation, entertainment, and Mediterranean charm.

Originally a humble fishing village, Fuengirola has evolved into a thriving coastal town while retaining glimpses of its rich past. At its heart lies the Plaza de la Constitución, while the impressive Sohail Castle, dating back to Moorish times, stands proudly overlooking the sea. Together, these landmarks offer a fascinating contrast to the town’s modern waterfront and bustling promenade.

Fuengirola is also a paradise for food lovers and shoppers. From traditional tapas bars and fresh seafood restaurants to international cuisine, stylish cafés, and boutique shops, there’s something for every taste. The palm-lined promenade is perfect for leisurely walks, cycling, or simply enjoying spectacular Mediterranean views.

As the sun sets, Fuengirola comes alive with one of the Costa del Sol’s best nightlife scenes. La Carihuela is the charming seaside district of Torremolinos, located on the western edge of Málaga’s Costa del Sol. Once a traditional fishing village, it has retained much of its authentic Andalusian character while evolving into one of the region’s most popular coastal destinations.

The name La Carihuela is believed to refer to its origins as a small fishing community. For generations, local families relied on the sea for their livelihood, and the neighbourhood developed independently from the main town of Torremolinos due to the steep 30-metre rise separating the two. Fishing remained the heart of daily life until the tourism boom of the 1950s transformed the area. As visitors flocked to the Costa del Sol, La Carihuela became renowned for its beachfront restaurants, where freshly caught seafood and the famous pescaíto frito (Andalusian fried fish) quickly earned an outstanding reputation. At its peak, the village was home to a fleet of around 40 fishing boats.

Originally, La Carihuela consisted of a row of modest fishermen’s cottages and simple beach huts, a few of which can still be seen today along Calle Los Perros. The area’s transformation began in 1948 with the opening of the iconic El Remo nightclub, followed by the construction of landmark hotels including the Hotel Pez Espada, Hotel Tropicana, Hotel Montemar, and several others that helped establish Torremolinos as one of Spain’s pioneering holiday resorts.

Today, La Carihuela perfectly blends its rich maritime heritage with a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. Visitors can stroll along its lively palm-lined promenade, browse boutique shops, enjoy spectacular sea views, or dine at one of the many restaurants serving some of the freshest seafood on the Costa del Sol. The neighbourhood is also home to the beautiful Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen, making La Carihuela a destination where history, culture, and seaside charm come together.

The Reality of Living on the Costa del Sol Nobody Tells You

The Reality of Living on the Costa del Sol Nobody Tells You

Everyone thinks the Costa del Sol is paradise 🌴
Endless sunshine, beach life, relaxed living… but what’s it really like once the holiday ends?

In this video, I share the real truth about living on the Costa del Sol — the good, the bad, and the parts nobody posts on Instagram.

I talk about:

The lifestyle positives that attract people here

The real cost of living (rent vs wages, rising prices, tourist inflation)

What working here is actually like — Spanish salaries, remote work & language barriers

The bureaucracy nobody warns you about (NIE, residency, healthcare, slow processes)

Social life, making real friends & integrating with locals

How different the Costa del Sol feels in summer vs winter

Who this lifestyle is perfect for — and who will probably struggle

This isn’t meant to scare anyone off — just to help you come with realistic expectations.
For some people, the Costa del Sol is an incredible place to live. For others, it can be frustrating.

👉 Thinking of moving here?
👉 Already living on the Costa del Sol?

Let me know your experience in the comments.
Would you move here after hearing this?

🎬 Costa Blanca vs Costa del Sol — Which Is Better for Living in Spain?

These two coastal regions are among the most popular places for people relocating to Spain. Both offer sunshine, beaches, and a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, but when you start looking at them as places to live year-round, the differences become much clearer.

In this video, I compare the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol based on climate, property prices, lifestyle, infrastructure, and the overall feel of daily life.

Before moving to Spain, I spent several weeks travelling along both coasts, exploring towns from Torrevieja and La Mata on the Costa Blanca to Nerja, Marbella, Estepona and Manilva on the Costa del Sol. I wanted to understand what living in each region might really feel like beyond the holiday experience.

One thing many people don’t realise is that the Costa del Sol is incredibly varied. Much of the international media focuses on Marbella, but the coastline stretches around 150 kilometres, and life can feel very different depending on where you are along it.

In this video we look at:
• The key differences between the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol
• Climate and winter weather
• Property prices and affordability
• Lifestyle and international communities
• My experience travelling both regions
• Why I ultimately chose the Costa del Sol

The reality is that neither coast is objectively better. They simply suit different lifestyles and priorities.

If you’re considering moving to Spain or deciding between these two regions, I hope this comparison helps you understand which one might suit you best.
