An old fishing district located to the southwest of Torremolinos municipal area, La Carihuela has become one of the most visited summer destinations in Costa del Sol.
Its inhabitants relied on the fruits of the sea until the explosion of the tourist boom in the 50s, during that time the development of restaurant businesses began which is mainly based on fish and the famous fried fish or “pescaíto frito.”
The neighborhood of La Carihuela was then made up of a row of small houses and shacks on the floor. During the early 1950s the construction and rise of hotels on the orchards of the area began, which followed by the promotions of apartments and building of new homes. These hotels include Hotel Pez Espada (1957), Hotel Carihuela Palace (1960), Hotel Tropicana (1961), Hotel Tres Carabelas (1962), Hotel Montemar, and Hotel Miami.
The La Carihuela promenade is considered as one of the places of interest in the neighborhood, along with the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Both easily accessible to everyone.
Defined by its summer beach scene, La Carihuela draws locals and tourists for its weather along with the spectacular sea views, hutlike chiringuitos that serve local cuisines, and different water sports activities. Kiosks, rental services of sunbeds and water equipment such as pedal boats are available for every holidaymakers.

On Holy Monday, April 14, 2025, Málaga’s streets came alive with one of the most vibrant spectacles of Semana Santa, as tens of thousands of participants and spectators gathered for the grand processions marking Holy Week. This annual commemoration of the Passion of Jesus Christ saw six revered brotherhoods (cofradías)—including the Brotherhood of the Crucifixion, the Gypsies, and the Sorrows of the Bridge—parade through the city with ornate thrones (tronos) weighing up to 5,000 kilos, carried by hundreds of devoted bearers. The processions, filled with penitents in nazareno robes, marching bands, and the scent of incense, drew massive crowds along the official 850-meter route from Alameda Principal to Granada Street.

The Puente Nuevo, a magnificent bridge spanning the gorge, is one of Ronda’s most iconic landmarks and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

On 24th of November 2023, the beautiful city of Málaga once again became a Christmas show of light, colour and music for 40 nights in its central streets.
The grand opening party of the Christmas lights in Larios Street took place this Friday evening.
The inauguration took place on Friday, 24th of November at 7pm. From then on, there will be light and sound shows with Christmas songs every day until the 5th of January 2024.
Regarding the light show in Calle Larios there will be three shows every day, at 7pm, 8:30pm and 10pm, except on 24th and 31th of December.
The lights will be switched on between 6:30pm and 00:00am, on weekends and the eve of public holidays until 2am. On the 24th and 31st they will be on until 6am.
The city will feature around 2.2 million LED lights in 500 streets, squares and on roundabouts – and well-known landmarks will also be illuminated.
The city council has promised the festive show will make the capital of the Costa del Sol a “European leader” for Christmas light displays once again. A total of 1.4 million euros is being spent on the Christmas lights this year.
The musical theme for the light show will be a mixture of seasonal classics and the occasional foray into the world of the great orchestras and tracks played on Calle Larios will include Jingle Bells by the Johann Strauss Orchestra, We wish you a Merry Christmas, Carol of the Bells by Pentatonix, Navidad Épica and Hacía Belén van una Burra.
PS: Due to copyright claims the song that was playing around 08:00mins onwards was taken out. Apologies in advance for the inconvenience.
