TORREMOLINOS / BENALMADENA:
Benalmádena Costa, as the name suggest is the 10km coastal strip of Benalmádena municipal district. Benalmádena Costa runs along the sea front between Torremolinos and Fuengirola.
Benalmádena Costa is synonymous with Benalmádena in the eyes of most tourists.
The town of Benalmádena covers an area of almost 30 kilometres and extends from the Sierra de Mijas down to the coastline of the Mediterranean.
Situated between the towns of Torremolinos and Fuengirola, Benalmádena is just 19 kilometres from Málaga Airport and is connected to all of the coast’s major resorts by the local train and bus services.
Rich in beautiful and attractive beaches, gardens, theme parks and a stunning marina, Benalmádena is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the Costa del Sol.
The population of nearly seventy thousand is concentrated in three main centres: Benalmádena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa.
Benalmádena Costa is one of the most cosmopolitan areas on the coast and famed for an abundance of British bars and restaurants. The heart of the resort is the extensively equipped Puerto Marina and there one will find dozens of restaurants and bars serving food from all corners of the world. One will be spoilt for choice in the Marina, there are steak houses, pasta and pizza trattorias and noodle bars mixed with traditional fish and seafood restaurants.
Benalmádena Puerto Marina rates amongst the best in the world, proof of which is the fact that it is several times winner of the ‘Best Marina in the World’ award. With 1,100 moorings for boats of all nationalities and up to 6 meters long, Benalmadena Port – ‘Puerto Marina’ is one of the Costa del Sol’s busiest centres by day and night. For the energetic, the nightlife carries on in sophisticated bars and clubs.

Founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century B.C. Málaga is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was a first federated municipality, and then under the Latin law of the Roman Empire and a prosperous Andalusian medina four times the capital of its own kingdom, which was incorporated into the Crown of Castile in 1487.
In the 19th century, Málaga experienced an incredible industrial and revolutionary activity that made it ranked as the fisrt industrial city in Spain and made her worthy of the titles “Siempre denodada” (Always bold) and “La primera en el peligro de la libertad” (The first in danger of freedom). The protagonist of the explosion of the tourist boom of the 1960s and 1970s, it is now an outstanding entertainment, economic, cultural & communications hub on the Mediterranean coast.
Málaga has been declared a Historic Site due to the set of historical elements found in the same city: Phoenicians, Punics, Romans and Arabs are concentrated in the historic center of the city – Roman Theater, the Alcazaba, the Cathedral, among many other cutural elements found both outdoors and underground.
The city is an important tourist destination, dubbed as “the capital of the Costa del Sol.” An estimate of 6 million tourists visit the city each year. Tourists usually visit the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and the Museo Picasso Málaga, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, the old town and the beaches to name a few.

Malaga´s historic center streets are basically narrow and impressive. You´ll find historic buildings, museums and churches, as well as squares with an abundance of cafes, restaurants, shops, boutiques, night clubs and souvenir shops.
The port of Málaga is in international seaport and a popular fishing port. It is the oldest one of this kind operating in Spain. The port is in a natural bay, well protected by the shape of coastline; it is situated on the edge of the historic cultural centre and has access to all of the city´s beaches via the Promenade Pablo Ruiz Picasso. On May 20, 2023, La Noche en Blanco returns to Malaga, with its 14th edition, and it does so with an extensive program of 143 activities. One of the most popular events in the city that offers a night of fun and entertainment… and completely free.
The city of Málaga has celebrated 13 editions of La Noche en Blanco, a cultural proposal characterized by participation. It began in 2008 following in the footsteps of large European cities such as Paris, Madrid, Riga, Rome and Brussels. Málaga has been the only Spanish capital that has continued with this initiative annually.
Each year it has been adding participants and there have been editions in which La Noche en Blanco has had more than 200 proposals concentrated in a few hours. Throughout the previous 12 editions, nearly 2,000 activities have been held.
The theme of La Noche en Blanco Málaga 2023 is “La buena vida” (The good life), after winning the open vote by the Culture area of the City Council with 476 votes.
It reminds us of the true meaning of discovering beauty in everyday pleasures and La Noche en Blanco is the perfect moment to take this feeling out into the street and show that this way of living so much of ours can also be an art. Specifically, “El Gen de la Buena Vida” (The Good Life Gene) is what the image of this fourteenth edition represents.

One of the main tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, Benalmádena is famous for its leisure establishments such as amusement parks, casino, aquariums, and one of the largest marinas in Andalucía.
The municipality’s population boom started in the 1950s with the development of mass tourism of the coast of Spain. At the time several established hotels, restaurants an businesses were opened. In the early 21st century, many more businesses were constructed.
Benalmádena has lots of great beaches and a wide variety of services and accommodations for every holidaymaker. Many restaurants and bars serve food from all over the world are present in the area. Chiringuitos or local seafood restaurants on the seaside are also famous! The relaxed, amiable and cill vibes all year makes it one of the most beloved destinations for families.

Málaga is set along the sparkling coastline of the Costa del Sol and embodies youthful vigour in a city that has transformed itself. The design of the Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga comprises an intriguing blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles, built on the ruins of the former mosque of Aljama. Málaga’s historical centrepiece is more than 250 years old and, despite construction spanning the mid-16th-century to the late 18th-century, it was never fully completed due to a lack of funds. Even so, it still remains one of the most impressive cathedrals in the region.
Plaza de la Merced is a handsome square in the Old Town of Málaga. Flanked by sun-trapped cafés and airy spaces, you can explore the popular plaza and admire the neo-classical obelisk in the centre of the 19th-century square. Continue making your way to the north corner to the house where famous artist Pablo Picasso was born in 1881.
The well-preserved Alcazaba de Málaga dates back to the 11th-century Moorish period and is set among lush greenery of towering palms and orange groves. Built upon the ruins of a former Roman bastion on the hillside of the mount of Gibralfaro, the site once had 110 main towers with a series of smaller columns peppered throughout.
Calle Marqués de Larios in Málaga’s Old Town is one of the best places to fill your shopping bags. The beautiful, pedestrianised, marble-lined street dressed with swanky stores was once considered one of the most elegant streets in Spain. Now a hotspot for shoppers, the street is home to Spanish household name stores including Zara, Oysho, Massimo Dutti, and many more.

With a population of 578,460 in 2020, it is the second-most populous city in Andalusia after Seville and the sixth most populous in Spain and it lies on the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) of the Mediterranean.
The most important business sectors in Málaga are tourism, construction and technology services, but other sectors such as transportation and logistics are beginning to expand.
In the warmest month, August, the temperature ranges from 26 to 34 °C (79 to 93 °F).

Nerja is a municipality on the Costa del Sol in the Province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalucía in southern Spain. Located on the southern Mediterranean coast, about 50 kilometers east of Málaga.
During the Muslim rule, its name was Narixa, which means “abundant source” and is the origin of the current name of this town.
Sheltered by the impressive Sierra Almijara mountain range, Sierra Almijara, this former fishing village is now one of the most popular tourist resorts along the coast. Preferring to stay to its roots, this charming seaside town has resisted re-development and high-rise apartments, thus attracting more holidaymakers.
One of the town’s most spectacular attractions is the Balcón de Europa (the Balcony of Europe), a very impressive promenade that stretches along the edge of a soaring cliff top which was once the location of a Moorish castle. The platform has amazing panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline, with its backdrop of mountains.
The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with flowers such as geraniums, on which a canary can sometimes be heard singing.
Nerja has lots of beaches that boasts 16 kilometers of beaches with sparkling clear and calm water, and powdery sand. It is also equipped with many facilities and all major water sports activities are available along the coastline, such as water skiing, scuba diving and sailing to name a few.

Torremolinos is located just 7 kilometers from the city of Málaga and right next to the attractive neighboring resort town of Benalmádena.
The town of Torremolinos has a happy, quirky, fun atmosphere and appeals to both young and old visitors. There are an abundance of shops and boutiques, and the best place to head is the main pedestrianised street of Calle San Miguel, where shops line up to sell you goods of all kinds.
It is also filled with color in the summer season, with over a thousand species of trees and flowers being planted in and around the towns streets, plazas and parks.
The old fishing district of El Bajondillo is found at the end of Calle San Miguel, at the bottom of a steep flight of stairs, here you will find some excellent seafood restaurants, souvenir shops and at the bottom is the beach of El Bajondillo.
The seafront promenade of Torremolinos stretches all the way to Benalmádena Marina and makes for a pleasant evening stroll, where you pass the old fishing village of La Carihuela.

Torremolinos is a product of the tourist boom of the 1960’s in which turned this small fishing village into a large, densely-populated town devoted wholly to sun and sand tourism, showcasing large beaches and lots of related facilities and services; it is also home to a Congress Center which has played host to important international conventions on various occasions.
The famous Pimentel Tower is the town’s most noteworthy monument and icon, although some traces of the past are still seen around the Bajondillo and La Carihuela districts.
The origins and name derive form a watchtower (torre) and the mills (molinos) built there to grind wheat, positioned perpendicularly to the ocean in order to harness the hydraulic power generated by the water flowing into it.
The coast was then subsequently fortified with castles and defensive towers. One of the most importants defensive constructions was St. Clare’s Castle which was built in the second half of the 18th century on the site of the old fort. The castle since then has disappeared, and in its place a hotel complex was built.
From the year 1813 onwards, it was an independent municipality, and it returned to the city of Malaga in 1924.
In the second half of the 20th century, a new stimulus came which changed the whole look of Torremolinos and the population’s economic activities and lifestyle, when the progressive development of tourism that had begun in the 1960s – created a transformation that turned the town into one of the world’s best-known holiday resorts.
On the 27th of September 1988, the Andalusian Regional Goernment, in response to the wishes of the town’s inhabitants, declared Torremolinos an independent municipality once again.
