Join us on an early evening walk through the bustling center of Torremolinos, in the heart of the Costa del Sol, Andalucia, Spain. It is past eight and the town is full of life, with a warm breeze and the golden light of sunset falling over its streets and squares.
People fill the terraces and pedestrian avenues, some just returning from the beach, others freshly dressed and ready to enjoy the night. There is a cheerful mix of sandy feet and evening outfits, all blending into the animated rhythm of a southern Spanish summer.
This Friday walk captures one of those perfect moments when everything feels in motion yet unhurried. The town glows, the cafés are packed, and conversations echo through the air. It is one of those evenings when Torremolinos reaches its most charming and unforgettable mood.

In the fledgeling days of the package holiday, Torremolinos grew from a quaint and simple fishing village into a thriving holiday resort for the first waves of tourists arriving at the nearby Málaga airport.
The town’s immediacy to Málaga, its seven kilometres of beach and its superb climate ensured it quickly became something of a favorite among northern Europeans; less than a three-hour flight away for most, Torremolinos offered tangible tropical-ness, almost year-round warmth and an intriguing peek into the Spanish way of life.
By the 1980s, was most certainly one of the liveliest resorts in Europe, but the proliferation of low air fares and more air routes opened up a greater range of choice for the consumer, and it soon fell out of favour with the average holidaymaker seeking fun in the sun. So it set about re-inventing itself.
First, the infrastructure was modernised, followed soon by bigger and better hotels and a greater choice of attractions. Soon, became a popular gay resort (it still is) and it has, in recent years, enhanced its appeal further, adding family-friendly attractions, traditional charm and a wider choice of commercial and investment opportunities than before.
The stretch of beach that runs the entire length of the resort is dotted with thousands of sun-loungers and parasols, and along the promenade are numerous restaurants and chiringuitos (most of them Spanish in character and cuisine), while the street-side promenade is home to a more international offering of cafés, restaurants, bars and shops.
Once in the town centre, street upon shop-fronted street stretches out before you, buzzing with activity day and night. Between the stores and gift shops sit plenty more bars and restaurants, most with an open-front where al fresco coffee-sipping and people-watching can be enjoyed at your leisure.

Benalmádena is one of the main tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, famous for its leisure establishments, which include various amusement park, two aquariums, casino, a cable car, and one of the largest marinas in Andalucía.
Populated since the prehistoric times, Benalmádena underwent a remarkable development during the time of Muslim domination, a development that would later be paralyzed after its incorporation into the Crown of Castile in the year 1485, because of various natural disasters and the intense activity of the corsairs in the area. The cultivation of the vineyard and the paper industry would later reactivate the economy of Benalmádena during the 18th and 19th centuries, but the greatest demographic boom in its history would be caused by the growth of tourism from the second half of the 20th century.
The municipality’s population boom began in the 50s with the development of mass tourism on the Spanish coast. During the time many established hotel, restaurants and businesses were opened, among these were Hotel Triton (1961), Tivoli World amusement park (1973), Torrequebrada casino and hotel (1979), Selwo Aquarium, Sea Life Aquarium, Cable car, Hotel Alay, and Chollocasa real estate agency. In the early 21st century, many more businesses were constructed. Parque de la Paloma is a more recent addition to the attractions, a landscape park with a large lake where visitors can interact with animals.
The coastal area of Benalmádena is known by the name “Benalmádena Costa” and concentrates of the bulk of hotel establishments. The Benalmádena Marina is found here, as well as the promenade the crosses the municipality from the limits with the neighboring municipalities.
Benalmádena Marina, most known as Puerto Marina is characterized by its particular architecture that has been recognized globally, especially among European tourists. It houses different establishments such as hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, shops, Maritime Captaincy, the Benalmádena Maritime Yacht Club, a luxury residential area, and the Sea Life Benalmádena aquarium.

Nerja is a small fishing and agricultural village in Málaga. It is the last town East of Málaga, bordering with Granada and its subtropical climate translates to 320 days of sun, making Nerja an ideal tourist resort spot, for relaxation, leisure, or business.
In the center of the town, there you can find one of the most iconic structures in Nerja, the Balcón de Europa. It is a balcony above a cliff that looks over the sea where the beaches and cliffs surrounding the area can be seen.
The old town is a typical Andalucian town filled with white-washed houses and pebbled streets. These streets are filled with shops and specialty stores where you can find sweet wines, sugar cane honey and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
A place full of history and wonderful places for everyone, Nerja surely is a must-visit when you come to Málaga.

Torremolinos is located on the Costa del Sol, on the western shore of the bay of Málaga and behind the Sierra de Mijas. It is located at an altitude of 49 meters and 13 kilometers from the center of Málaga, the provincial capital.
In the 1950s, Torremolinos was a small fishing village that became one of the main tourist destinations for sun and beach in Spain, the first in Andalucía and on the Costa del Sol. The influx of foreigners, intellectuals, hippies, bohemians, aristocrats, artists, famous personalities and tourists in general during the 1960s and 1970s created a free and easy, permissive and cosmopolitan atmosphere that made it stand out from other areas of the Costa del Sol.
The town’s busy nightlife is prominent in the area. It is gay-friendly and has very accepting and uninhibited atmosphere.

Málaga is located in Andalucía, south of Spain. It is also known as “the capital of the Costa del Sol.” An estimate of six million tourists visit the city every year to enjoy the climate, the sea and its beaches. Málaga is also the largest and most populated coastal city in southern Spain.
This wonderful city has two thousand-eight hundred years of history and considered as one of the oldest cities in Europe. The city center of Málaga is a place where you can see lots of interesting places. Málaga is rich in culture, modernity and historical monuments.
“La Noche en Blanco”
La Noche en Blanco is a cultural and leisure event held in the city center in the wonderful city of Málaga. Annually celebrated in the middle of the month of May, it is a magical night that Malaga residents have been experiencing since 2008 and that has more followers every year.
It is organized and coordinated by the Área de Cultura y Patrinomio Histórico del Ayuntamiento de Málaga. This event is also supported by other municipal delegations and organizations, as well as private institutions.
La Noche en Blanco presents more than 200 activities in different spaces in the city. These activities include arts, museums and expositions, performing arts, music and dance, street arts, audiovisual arts, and “Nochecita en blanco” activities for kids.
At this nighttime festival of culture, fun for adults and children is guaranteed throughout the city. The adventure begins on Calle Larios, where we find the Information Point. Here we will discover everything you need to embark on the journey to this fantastic night.
Every year, La Noche en Blanco in Málaga deals with a different theme, and the activities are developed around this, as well as the decoration of the city. From 8 in the afternoon until 1 in the morning, museums, exhibition halls and art galleries open their doors so that citizens can discover their treasures in a totally different way than usual.
“Lo Mágico” (The Magical) has been the theme chosen by citizens for the celebration of La Noche en Blanco 2024 and “La magia está en ti” (The magic is in you) which represents the image of its fifteenth edition. The graphics of this edition are inspired by the surrealist work of the Belgian artist René Magritte (1898-1967), specifically, in the canvas ‘The Son of Man’ (1964), and has two complementary versions: man-woman or night-day.

The municipal area of Fuengirola is one of the smallest in the province of Malaga, consisting merely of the coastal strip occupied by the town and the Santa Fe de Los Boliches district, which make up seven kilometers of excellent beaches.
Although it may have a Phoenician origin, the town’s history begins in the Arabic times with the construction of Sohail Castle for defense purposes, part of whose walls still remain until today. The twon center still retains a certain traditional air, albeit it is today characterized by the hotels, apartments, restaurants, etc needed to its main source of income which is the sun and sand tourism.
Fuengirola was inhabited by the bástulos, the Phoenicians, and then later the Carthaginians. The Romans called it Suel, and the Arabs Sohail, the name of a star in which according to Ibn-Jallicam, could only be seen in the peninsula from this spot.
In the year 912, Abderraman III ordered the building of a fortress on the small hill that stands between the coastline and the mouth of the River Sohail; the remains of this said castle, though in a state of extremme disrepair, still form an important feature in the lanscape of the coast of Fuengirola. It was then used for military purposes and to monitor the coast until the 19th century, playing a major part in the War of Independence.
On the 7th of August 1487, Fuengirola was captured by the Catholic Monarchs.
In the 17th century, the town acquired its present-day denomination which appears to be derived form the name by which it was referred to by the Genoese sailors who came to the shores and used dragnets, which they called “gironas.”

La Carihuela in Torremolinos is 18 km away from the city center, and ranges from El Bajondillo to the Benalmádena Marina.
If the beach of La Carihuela stands out for something, it is because of the number of nearby restaurants and beach bars where you can enjoy the typical Málaga fried fish or numerous traditional dishes.
Its name pays tribute to the old fishing district located to the east of the city, which today has become a cosmopolitan area that concentrates a large number of leisure establishments and hotels.
The palm grove areas with natural grass provide a pleasant shade that invites you to enjoy the summer days.
In high season we can find kiosks, hammock rental services and nautical equipment such as pedal boats. In addition, in summer, this beach becomes one of the most frequented in the area thanks to the fact that various shows are organized there.
One of the most special days to enjoy La Carihuela beach is July 16, during the festival of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of the municipality, in which a wide program of recreational activities is held around the procession and embarkation of the Virgin.

Torremolinos is a municipality in the province of Malaga that in recent years has become one of the preferred locations on the Costa del Sol.
