An old fishing district located to the southwest of Torremolinos municipal area, La Carihuela has become one of the most visited summer destinations in Costa del Sol.

Its inhabitants relied on the fruits of the sea until the explosion of the tourist boom in the 50s, during that time the development of restaurant businesses began which is mainly based on fish and the famous fried fish or “pescaíto frito.”

The neighborhood of La Carihuela was then made up of a row of small houses and shacks on the floor. During the early 1950s the construction and rise of hotels on the orchards of the area began, which followed by the promotions of apartments and building of new homes. These hotels include Hotel Pez Espada (1957), Hotel Carihuela Palace (1960), Hotel Tropicana (1961), Hotel Tres Carabelas (1962), Hotel Montemar, and Hotel Miami.

The La Carihuela promenade is considered as one of the places of interest in the neighborhood, along with the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Both easily accessible to everyone.

Defined by its summer beach scene, La Carihuela draws locals and tourists for its weather along with the spectacular sea views, hutlike chiringuitos that serve local cuisines, and different water sports activities. Kiosks, rental services of sunbeds and water equipment such as pedal boats are available for every holidaymakers.

Benalmádena is a town located between Fuengirola and Torremolinos, with lots of great beaches and a wide variety of services and accommodation for the tourists. Benalmádena Costa is home to the majority of the area’s attractions most importantly the golden sandy beaches. Many restaurants and bars serving food from all over the world are present in the area. Chiringuitos or local seafood restaurants on the beach are famous in the area. The friendly, relaxed and chill atmosphere all year makes it one of the most beloved destinations for families.

Benalmádena indeed has everything like top-quality beaches, the modern and outstanding Puerto Marina, a Casino located in Torrequebrada, several golf courses, amusement parks such as Tivoli World and Holiday World Beach Club, and plenty of attractions like Sea Life, Parque de la Paloma, and Butterfly Garden making sure that all visitors have an unforgettable experience during their stay.

At the Benalmádena beach you can visit the Castle Bil-Bil, an Arabic style building, which is adorned with fountains and is decorated according to Nazari tradition. Another building of great interest in Benalmádena is the Castle of Colomares, dedicated to the discovery of America. This construction creates a grand visual impact by combining all architectural styles.

In the fledgeling days of the package holiday, Torremolinos grew from a quaint and simple fishing village into a thriving holiday resort for the first waves of tourists arriving at the nearby Málaga airport.

The town’s immediacy to Málaga, its seven kilometres of beach and its superb climate ensured it quickly became something of a favourite among northern Europeans; less than a three-hour flight away for most, Torremolinos offered tangible tropical-ness, almost year-round warmth and an intriguing peek into the Spanish way of life.

By the 1980s, was most certainly one of the liveliest resorts in Europe, but the proliferation of low air fares and more air routes opened up a greater range of choice for the consumer, and it soon fell out of favour with the average holidaymaker seeking fun in the sun. So it set about re-inventing itself.

First, the infrastructure was modernised, followed soon by bigger and better hotels and a greater choice of attractions. Soon, became a popular gay resort (it still is) and it has, in recent years, enhanced its appeal further, adding family-friendly attractions, traditional charm and a wider choice of commercial and investment opportunities than before.

The stretch of beach that runs the entire length of the resort is dotted with thousands of sun-loungers and parasols, and along the promenade are numerous restaurants and chiringuitos (most of them Spanish in character and cuisine), while the street-side promenade is home to a more international offering of cafés, restaurants, bars and shops.

Once in the town centre, street upon shop-fronted street stretches out before you, buzzing with activity day and night. Between the stores and gift shops sit plenty more bars and restaurants, most with an open-front where al fresco coffee-sipping and people-watching can be enjoyed at your leisure.

We had a great time in a fantastic hotel with amazing staff, but special thanks to Paloma, Dani, Lucia and the Kids Club team for looking after our little ones and allowing us to have some mum and dad time!

Marbella embodies culture, leisure, and glamour; it is one of the most exclusive cities in the Mediterranean and the pride of the Costa del Sol. Twenty-eight kilometres of coastline, four sports marinas, fourteen golf courses, and an exceptional climate come together to create a destination that can’t be matched.

Visiting Marbella is a unique experience. From shopping in its luxurious boutiques to dining in its distinguished restaurants, having fun in its beach clubs, and doing any kind of sport, the possibilities are endless. If relaxation is your priority, the city has many health and beauty centres, as well as a wide and exclusive range of hotels in its three main centres: Marbella, San Pedro de Alcantara, and Nueva Andalucía-Puerto Banús.

The Plaza de los Naranjos: located in the heart of the old town and belonging to the end of the 15th century, it is one of the first Christian designs created after the Reconquest. It was built in accordance with the existing tradition in Spanish cities, but without arcades. Here, you can find the Casa del Corregidor, the Town Hall, and the Hermitage of Santiago.

You can also find the Capilla de San Juan de Dios and the Hermitage of Santo Cristo de la Vera Cruz, both from the 16th century, and the Iglesia de la Encarnación, dated the 17th to 18th century, close by. The latter has a basilica plan structure that consists of three naves and a front door, carved in Rococo-style ochre stone, a true masterpiece. Inside, you can find the Major Sun Organ, from 1975, which is considered to be one of the most important organs built in Spain in the 20th century.

The historical centre still preserves the remains of the city wall, which enclosed the city during the Muslim period, and the Moorish Castle. You can see Roman columns embedded into one of the towers, located in Calle Trinidad, which reveals that construction materials from even older buildings were being recycled and re-purposed to create a defence structure.

Visiting Marbella is a unique experience. From shopping in its luxurious boutiques to dining in its distinguished restaurants or having fun at their beach clubs, the possibilities are endless.

A product of the tourist boom in the 1960s, Torremolinos began as a small fishing village to a large, densely-populated town dedicated entirely to sun and sand tourism. Torremolinos showcases large beaches with various related facilities and services.

The famous Pimentel Tower is the town’s most significant monnument and serves as an icon, with some traces of the past still visible around the areas of La Carihuela and Bajondillo districts.

The origins and name of the town derive from a watchtower (torre) and the mills (molinos) built there to grind wheat, positioned perpendicularly to the ocean in order to harness the hydraulic power generated by the water flowing into it.

During the second half of the 20th century, Torremolinos has changed significantly with regards to the population’s lifestyle and economic activities when the progressive development of tourism that had begun which created a transformation that turned the town into one of today’s best-known holiday resorts.

Malaga City Beach and Port Spain Sunny Day April 2024 Update Costa del Sol | Andalucía [4K]

An attractive promenade lined with shops, restaurants and bars stretches out alongside Málaga’s port, forming the Muelle Uno mall, just a short walk from the city’s historical centre. On the second Sunday of each month, local artisans and merchants share stalls at the El Zoco de Muelle Uno, a local market selling gourmet food, handmade products and vintage clothing. Enjoy the best of open-air shopping as you idly watch cruise liners come and go.

Adjacent to the promenade lies an 18th-century Baroque church, Chapel of Muelle Uno, constructed from sandstone from a nearby quarry. As you continue along the marina, Muelle Uno extends to La Farola, the 38-metre-high 19th-century lighthouse of Málaga.

Málaga City’s Playa de la Malagueta (La Malagueta Beach) is one of the busiest beaches in the center of the city. During the summer the coast gets filled with lot of locals and tourists due to its close proximity to Málaga.

This well-known beach has sand directly brought in from the Sahara to make it wider. There are plenty of restaurants, “chiringuitos” and beach bars that offer wide variety of local foods. There are also large areas where you can do outdoor exercises. La Malagueta is one of those beaches that’s highly recommended both by day and by night.

The Málaga city center is typically secure at night as would be most cities in Spain. The locals are accommodating to almost everyone and crimes are only at a minimum, that is for both locals and visitors alike.

Plaza Uncibay is home of most of Málaga’s nightlife, including the area near the Cathedral and the streets around the square. Here, pubs and bars are not one right next to the other, or in front of each other, they are scattered in different areas but not far away. They are within walking distance of one another, and the historic center is car-free, making it ideal for night walks.
