Fuengirola 2022 – Beautiful town in the Costa Del Sol, Spain

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Only 25km from Malaga International Airport is the town of Fuengirola – one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol. Easily accessible by road, rail or bus, it is not difficult to see why this buzzing cosmopolitan town on the Mediterranean is the number one choice for so many.

Previously, a tiny fishing village, Fuengirola has become a vibrant metropolis with character. The advent of many up-market tapa bars, good cafes and restaurants, interspersed with chic boutiques and other shops of interest, as well as fabulous beaches makes it the perfect holiday destination. The main square, Plaza de la Constitución, has been re-designed but still retains its unique enchantment. It looks pretty especially at Christmas, when it is decorated with very attractive lights and ornaments. It is also attractive during the Fuengirola summer feria, when the whole town takes part in the annual street celebrations. A walk down the narrow, pedestrian streets leading off the main square is a voyage of discovery for the many visitors, who come across some of the hidden secrets and delightful corners of this friendly, Andalucian town.

Málaga, called “the beautiful”, is located in the center of the basin of the same name, in a space between the hills, the course of the Guadalhorce and the coastal strip leading to the region of Axarquía.

Its privileged geographical location has always attracted travellers, traders, settlers, warriors…, who have left their mark in this now cosmopolitan, universal, open, relaxed and hospitable city.

The places and monuments worthy of interest are so numerous that we can only enumerate them: To the east, the suburb of El Palo with its typical fishermen’s houses, its small creeks, its walks and its traditional fried fish, leads to the Paseo Marítimo (promenade along the sea) with its beaches, the bullring district called La Malagueta, the Farola (the Lighthouse, which has become a symbol of the city) and the port pier from where you can contemplate a magnificent panoramic view of the city. Heading towards the center, we find the avenue du Parc which contains botanical species from all over the world perfectly adapted here thanks to the mild climate. This park takes us to the old town: the imposing Cathedral, the Castle of Gibralfaro, dating from the Muslim dynasty, La Alcazaba or Arab fortress, renovated for the enjoyment of all, and finally, the Roman Theater, testimony to what was the city at that time. Higher up, the Place de la Merced with the birthplace of the genius of painting that was Picasso. All this route is dotted with many churches worthy of interest: San Juan, Santiago, Santo Domingo, los Santos Mártires; the Convent of San Agustín and the Episcopal Palace; finally civil buildings such as the Palace of the Counts of Buenavista and the House of the Consulate.

A walk through its streets reminds us of its spectacular Holy Week and its grandiose Feria.

To the west and north we find the modern city, resulting from the urban growth of the sixties, and the Misericordia beaches that lead to the mouth of the Guadalhorce, a protected area and refuge for thousands of migratory birds.

This whole complex is dominated by the Montes de Málaga, a magnificent Natural Park of hills and small mountains, an ideal place to enjoy its charms. Finally, to this must be added many other tourist offers such as golf courses and water sports as well as other attractions that are difficult to measure such as climate, luminosity, cuisine and charm.

Story :

Estrabón, in the 1st century BC. J-C, cited the Phoenician city located at the foot of the hill where the Alcazaba (Arab fortress) is located.
Roman Málaga experienced a real golden age, as evidenced by its Roman Theater and other important archaeological remains and its status as a confederate city governed by its own laws: the Lex Flavia Malacitana.
A long period of decadence followed the fall of the Empire of Rome and in the year 571 the city was subjected to the domination of Visigoth king Leovigildo.
In the year 711, Tarik, lieutenant of the governor of northern Ifriquiya (Africa) Muza ben Nusayr, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar (Yebel-Tarik) at the head of nearly 10,000 men and undertook the conquest of the entire Peninsula -which he achieved in just five years-, more by knowing how to convince of the idea of a new credo and a renovating lifestyle than by winning by force of arms. In that year Malaga became Muslim and a new period in its history began to last for eight centuries. Its lands were occupied by Yemenis, Berbers, Arabs from the south, Muladis (Spaniards converted to the new religion), Mozarabs (Christians keeping and continuing to practice their religion) and Jews.

Malaga City Spain Beautiful City Update November 2022 Costa del Sol | Andalucía [4K]

Ancient and cosmopolitan Málaga in the past still retains its historic roots intact. In long-gone times it bore witness to the history of man and of the Mediterranean culture, and is today the primary force in the Andalusian tourist industry, keeping alive its tradition of a welcoming and creative land.

The province of Malaga is located in the south of the Mediterranean coast, between the provinces of Granada and Cadiz, and bordering the provinces of Cordoba and Seville in the north.

The history of this province has taken place between the sea and the mountains. Its capital was a witness to the economic and cultural boom of the western Mediterranean. The town known as “Malaka” by the Phoenicians was transformed into a prosperous commercial centre. After the Muslim invasion of the 8th century, the territory became Arabised and later became part of the Nasrid kingdom in Granada, when it underwent a new period of commercial and cultural prominence.

In the 19th century, the iron and steel industries of los Larios and the commercialisation of its wines provided significant economic development for the province.

After decades of economic downturn, Málaga underwent rapid economic growth in the second half of the 20th century, thanks to the tourism industry. Each year millions of citizens from all over the world choose this idyllic land to relax on its sun-drenched beaches, discover its rich architectural heritage or explore the wild beauty of its mountain geography.

The province of Málaga has over 160 kilometres of coastline. A total of 14 districts are located directly on the Mediterranean Sea. You can find secluded enclaves set in unspoilt nature, as well as more established tourist resorts. The beaches in both the eastern and the western part of the province are so attractive they have made the Costa del Sol one of the top international destinations.

La Carihuela Torremolinos Spain Beautiful Day Update November 2022 Costa del Sol | Málaga [4K]

La Carihuela is located in the eastern part of the municipality of Torremolinos. It was in years past a traditional fishing village inhabited by people who dedicated themselves to the seafarer’s life. Now, only a few picturesque nooks and cranies remain of the old quarter as reminders of the place’s former identity.

For years now, La Carihuela has been a cosmopolitan center in which hotels, leisure and gastronomic establishments are found. It is precisely the district’s gastronomy that has earned this strip of the Torremolinos coast its well-deserved fame that has spread beyond all borders, and all is due to the remarkable “pescaíto” or small fried fish that is served in the restaurants in the area.

Defined by its summer beach scene, La Carihuela draws locals and tourists for its weather along with the spectacular sea views, hutlike chiringuitos that serve local cuisines, and different water sports activities. Kiosks, rental services of sunbeds and water equiment such as pedal boats are available for every holidaymakers.

Beautiful centre – Torremolinos, Spain. 4K Walk tour. Costa del Sol

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Calle San Miguel is one of the main shopping area’s of Torremolinos. This is a fantastic place to relax, have a drink in one of the many bar’s and browse the shop’s. With it’s central location and great atmosphere it makes a lovely street to walk down during the day or in the evening.

Really enjoyable shopping area, where anyone could find everything they need. From nice souvenirs to cosy clothes or useful things. It’s a touristy street but in some parts it has still some local ambience. But if you’re looking for some shops and good restaurants it’s the place to go (rather than the seaside promenade).

MALAGA CITY TOUR – One of the most beautiful cities in Spain!

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Málaga is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, located on the Southern West coast of the peninsula, is close to the border with Portugal. It is one of the most populated areas of Spain and forms the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, together with some other great places like Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Cadiz

Malaga is known for its music. There’s an enormous selection of music bars and cafes, and no shortage of nightclubs either. Plaza de Uncibay is home to most of Malagan nightlife, including the area near the Cathedral of Malaga and the streets around the square.

You may be surprised about how compact Malaga’s historic center is. Most of the main tourist attractions in Malaga are within walking distance of each other, and most of the historic center is car-free, making it great for strolling.

Málaga is a municipality, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain. With a population of 571,026 in 2018, it is the second-most populous city of Andalusia and the sixth-largest in Spain.

Known for its stunning beaches, culture, and food, Málaga is one of the most visited coastal cities in Andalusia, Spain. It’s a go-to destination for travellers wanting to spend summer in Spain and can become busy during the warmer (hot) months.

Malaga City, gateway to southern Spain and the Costa del Sol, birthplace of Picasso and boasting one of the best climates in Europe. Underrated for so many years, Malaga City is now justifiably one of Spain’s hottest cultural, gastronomic and leisure destinations.

The city’s eclectic mix of Moorish, Renaissance and Modernist cultural landmarks are all within walking distance. The vibrant streets of the old town, the uber cool area of SOHO, where some of the world’s most important urban artists have left their mark, the super modern Muelle Uno port, with its Michelin star restaurants, cocktail bars and fashion boutiques, and no less than 15 golden sand beaches within the city limit, all come together to create a destination of excellence.

Malaga history
The urban metropolis is one of the oldest cities in the world, dating back to 770 bc. Originally a Phoenician settlement, called Malaka. Throughout the centuries it was occupied by the Carthaginians, Romans and Arab Maurer, until 1487 when it was conquered by the Christians.

More than 600,000 ‘Malagueños’ reside in this luminous Mediterranean city and in recent years the city has grown popular with foreign expats. Youngsters from all over the world come to Malaga to learn Spanish, many opting to stay on and live in the city. It’s now a melting pot of nationalities, although, unlike many of its Costa del Sol counterparts, Malaga City has managed to retain its rich Andalusian culture.
