Torremolinos, located on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain, was once a quiet fishing village before transforming into one of the first major tourist destinations in the region during the mid-20th century. Its development began in the 1950s when the town attracted international travelers seeking sun, sea, and a new sense of freedom, including celebrities, artists, and bohemians. Today, Torremolinos is known for its long sandy beaches like La Carihuela and Bajondillo, the scenic Paseo Marítimo, and the charming old town with its Andalusian-style streets and local markets. Attractions such as the Molino de Inca botanical gardens, the Casa de los Navajas with its neo-Mudejar architecture, and the crocodile park offer cultural and family-friendly experiences. The town also celebrates vibrant festivals like the Feria de San Miguel and the Romería. As the sun sets, Torremolinos transforms into a lively coastal hub with open-air terraces, stylish restaurants, beach bars, flamenco venues, and relaxed nightspots where locals and tourists alike stroll, dine, and enjoy the warm, festive atmosphere by the Mediterranean.

La Carihuela in Torremolinos is an old seafaring neighbourhood to the west, specifically in the south-west of the town. A good place to start a walk along the seaside can be reached by heading to Plaza del Remo. If you walk west, you’ll arrive at Puerto Marina in Benalmádena. If you choose the eastern route, you’ll enjoy numerous shops and restaurants in La Carihuela, admire la Punta or el Morro de Torremolinos, the natural monument which splits the Paseo Marítimo in two, and enjoy the other beaches until arriving at the end of Los Álamos. A pleasant and relaxing experience next to the sea.

The inhabitants of La Carihuela originally lived off the fruits of the sea: the tasty fish and shellfish offered by the Mediterranean at this extreme of Málaga Bay. However, the growth in tourism from the 1950s onwards opened new possibilities, chiefly with restaurants and chiringuitos (beach restaurants) where locals and tourists could enjoy the fishing catch.

Today the area has been modernized but it retains a large part of its original essence, with traditional shops and narrow lanes evocative of the traditional street layout so typical of Andalucía. A stroll that can be garnish with some of the best gastronomy in town, the high point being the quality of the fried fish.

An old fishing district located to the southwest of Torremolinos municipal area, La Carihuela has become one of the most visited summer destinations in Costa del Sol.

Marbella embodies culture, leisure, and glamour; it is one of the most exclusive cities in the Mediterranean and the pride of the Costa del Sol. Twenty-eight kilometres of coastline, four sports marinas, fourteen golf courses, and an exceptional climate come together to create a destination that can’t be matched.

Visiting Marbella is a unique experience. From shopping in its luxurious boutiques to dining in its distinguished restaurants, having fun in its beach clubs, and doing any kind of sport, the possibilities are endless. If relaxation is your priority, the city has many health and beauty centres, as well as a wide and exclusive range of hotels in its three main centres: Marbella, San Pedro de Alcantara, and Nueva Andalucía-Puerto Banús.

The Plaza de los Naranjos: located in the heart of the old town and belonging to the end of the 15th century, it is one of the first Christian designs created after the Reconquest. It was built in accordance with the existing tradition in Spanish cities, but without arcades. Here, you can find the Casa del Corregidor, the Town Hall, and the Hermitage of Santiago.

You can also find the Capilla de San Juan de Dios and the Hermitage of Santo Cristo de la Vera Cruz, both from the 16th century, and the Iglesia de la Encarnación, dated the 17th to 18th century, close by. The latter has a basilica plan structure that consists of three naves and a front door, carved in Rococo-style ochre stone, a true masterpiece.

The historical centre still preserves the remains of the city wall, which enclosed the city during the Muslim period, and the Moorish Castle. You can see Roman columns embedded into one of the towers, located in Calle Trinidad, which reveals that construction materials from even older buildings were being recycled and re-purposed to create a defence structure.

Visiting Marbella is a unique experience. From shopping in its luxurious boutiques to dining in its distinguished restaurants or having fun at their beach clubs, the possibilities are endless.

Torremolinos was the first of the Costa del Sol resorts to be developed and is still the most popular in the region. The beach which extends for nearly 8km (5.0 miles), includes cycle and skating lanes alongside the fully illuminated promenade and features many beach bars and local chiringuitos. The eastern part of the beach, known as Los Álamos, offers a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere all-year round. They also have windsurfing and kitesurfing among many water sports activities to offer during the summer season.

Located between the beaches of La Carihuela and Playamar is El Bajondillo. It is an impressive expanse of beach 40 meters wide and 1 kilometer long, right in the center of the town and one of the most visited. Definitely an urban beach, it is highly rated by residents and tourists due to its variety of services. Any time of the year tourists can enjoy the sea breeze. The beach restaurants provide different types of local fish cuisines freshly caught within the day!

At the seaside, there are the usual rentals available of bicycles, mopeds, electric scooters, jets skis, surf boards, parasailing, sailing, paddle, ski boats and snorkelling.

La Carihuela is a town found in Torremolinos. An old seafaring neighborhood located to the west, most specifically in the south-west part of the town. It is a good place to walk because of its wide promenade where you can reach El Bajondillo until Los Álamos on one side, or Benalmádena Puerto Marina on the other.

The inhabitants of La Carihuela originally lived off the fruits of the sea: the delicious fish and shellfish provided by the Mediterranean at the extremes of Málaga Bay. However, the growth in tourism form the 1950s paved way to new possibilities – with restaurants and chiringuitos (local beach restaurants) opened where locals and tourists could enjoy the fresh fish.

Although the town has been modernised, the original essence of La Carihuela still remains today and that can be seen through the traditional shops and narrow alleys that are typical in Andalucía. The town also offers a wide variety of quality fish dishes, a gastronomy experience that must not be missed.

Málaga is a municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalucía. It is the second most populous city in Andalucía next to Sevilla, and the sixth in Spain. It is found at the western end of the Mediterranean Sea and in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. It is located in the center of a bay surrounded by mountain ranges. The rivers Guadalmedina and Guadalhorce crosses it.

Founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century B.C. Málaga is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was a first federated municipality, and then under the Latin law of the Roman Empire and a prosperous Andalusian medina four times the capital of its own kingdom, which was incorporated into the Crown of Castile in the year 1487. During the 19th century, Málaga experienced an incredible industrial and revolutionary activity that made it ranked as the first industrial city in Spain. The protagonist of the explosion of the tourist boom of the 1960s and 1970s, it is currently an outstanding entertainment, economic, cultural and communications hub on the Mediterranean coast.

Málaga has been declared a Historic Site due to the set of historical elements found in the same city: Phoenicians, Punics, Romans and Arabs are concentrated in the historic center of the city – Roman Theater, the Alcazaba, the Cathedral, among many other cultural elements found both outdoors and underground.

The city is an important tourist destination, dubbed as “the capital of the Costa del Sol.” An estimate of 6 million tourists visit the city each year. Tourists usually visit the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and the Museo Picasso Málaga, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, the old town and the beaches to name a few. The harbour of Málaga is also the second busiest cruise port of the Iberian Peninsula.

When it comes to gastronomy, the cuisine of Málaga and the wider Costa del Sol is known for its espetos, fish (usually sardines) grilled over open fires in the chiringuitos or beach bars located near the beaches. The espeto has been proposed as a candidate for designation by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.
