6 minutes ago in Malaga, Spain! A powerful hailstorm hit cities in Malaga

For just ten minutes, the streets of Alhaurín el Grande were covered with a thick layer of hail that confused residents and shopkeepers. The day had started with blue skies and mild temperatures, but as the afternoon approached, a powerful storm hit the Malaga municipality.

In a matter of minutes, the steep streets turned into white rivers , terraces and roofs disappeared under the hail, and vehicles began to suffer visible impacts. The images shared by dozens of witnesses on social media show a scene that looks more like a winter storm.

Malaga, Spain Evacuated NOW! Cities & Towns UNDERWATER, Cars Swept Away, People Trapped.

Malaga, Spain Evacuated NOW! Cities & Towns UNDERWATER, Cars Swept Away, People Trapped. Spain Floods Today 2024

On November 13, 2024, Southern Spain was battered by torrential rainfall, leading to devastating floods in several regions, including the popular tourist destination of Malaga. The extreme weather event, known as a “Dana,” brought heavy rain and strong winds to the area, causing widespread disruption and damage.

In Malaga, thousands of residents were evacuated from their homes as rivers overflowed their banks and flash floods swept through streets and towns. The city’s main hospital was forced to limit services to emergencies only, as water levels rose inside the facility. Schools and businesses were closed, and flights were delayed or canceled as the airport experienced significant disruption.

On Tuesday night, 12th of November, when the alarm went off on all mobile phones, the Junta de Andalucía had previously activated the first level of emergency of the three levels in its plan. Aemet had declared a red alert for possible torrential rain and indicated the risk of flooding. Classes were cancelled throughout the province, trials suspended – like so many businesses that have decided not to raise the metal fence on Wednesday – and the first evacuations in the Guadalhorce valley. Almost 3,000 people had to leave their homes, of which only 30 used the municipal pavilions to spend the night.

On Wednesday, all public transport remains cut off. The EMT has suspended services and taken its cars to depots, taxi stations have asked drivers to stay at home and the Metro and railways are cut off. The María Zambrano Station has been evacuated and the water has affected the security systems between Málaga and Los Prados. The Airport has been isolated and municipal buses have had to go to transport 400 passengers. One flight has been suspended and five have been diverted to Seville. Many roads are closed, if they are not flooded.

The day after the DANA in Málaga clearly shows the effect of the heavy rains on streets and shops. Cleaning workers, individuals and owners of the affected shops are busy bailing out water and removing the rubbish and debris left by the action of the water from the street. A job that is repeated at different points and simultaneously and that will take some time. Although personal misfortunes have been avoided, the storm has left material damage.

With a sky now clear of the leaden grey and the sun returning the most usual image to Málaga, the Centre gives the impression of a certain normality. The bars that remained closed on Tuesday raised their shutters. What was reminiscent of this week’s heavy rainfall were the rubble and stones dragged by the flood.

Taking into account the images on the Internet of the flooded streets left on Tuesday, the contrast is evident. There are no traces of great devastation in the Centre. That does not mean that the owners of the shops that were flooded do not have to work hard today to remove the remains of the rain and carry out a thorough cleaning.

Throughout the Málaga province, the affected municipalities and their residents were working hard until today to return to normality as soon as possible. In total, there have been a thousand incidents in the province, although, except for a few cases that will take longer, the general feeling is that things will return to normal in record time.

Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures – big or small – and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It’s kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I’ve always been extremely passionate about what I’m doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. I’ve made over 150 Youtube videos in both English and Spanish, and I have aspirations to make 1000s more. If that sounds interesting to you, join the community and follow me along the way.. After all, we’re just getting started.

Málaga, called “the beautiful”, is located in the center of the basin of the same name, in a space between the hills, the course of the Guadalhorce and the coastal strip leading to the region of Axarquía.

Its privileged geographical location has always attracted travellers, traders, settlers, warriors…, who have left their mark in this now cosmopolitan, universal, open, relaxed and hospitable city.

The places and monuments worthy of interest are so numerous that we can only enumerate them: To the east, the suburb of El Palo with its typical fishermen’s houses, its small creeks, its walks and its traditional fried fish, leads to the Paseo Marítimo (promenade along the sea) with its beaches, the bullring district called La Malagueta, the Farola (the Lighthouse, which has become a symbol of the city) and the port pier from where you can contemplate a magnificent panoramic view of the city. Heading towards the center, we find the avenue du Parc which contains botanical species from all over the world perfectly adapted here thanks to the mild climate. This park takes us to the old town: the imposing Cathedral, the Castle of Gibralfaro, dating from the Muslim dynasty, La Alcazaba or Arab fortress, renovated for the enjoyment of all, and finally, the Roman Theater, testimony to what was the city at that time. Higher up, the Place de la Merced with the birthplace of the genius of painting that was Picasso. All this route is dotted with many churches worthy of interest: San Juan, Santiago, Santo Domingo, los Santos Mártires; the Convent of San Agustín and the Episcopal Palace; finally civil buildings such as the Palace of the Counts of Buenavista and the House of the Consulate.

A walk through its streets reminds us of its spectacular Holy Week and its grandiose Feria.

To the west and north we find the modern city, resulting from the urban growth of the sixties, and the Misericordia beaches that lead to the mouth of the Guadalhorce, a protected area and refuge for thousands of migratory birds.

This whole complex is dominated by the Montes de Málaga, a magnificent Natural Park of hills and small mountains, an ideal place to enjoy its charms. Finally, to this must be added many other tourist offers such as golf courses and water sports as well as other attractions that are difficult to measure such as climate, luminosity, cuisine and charm.

Story :

Estrabón, in the 1st century BC. J-C, cited the Phoenician city located at the foot of the hill where the Alcazaba (Arab fortress) is located.
Roman Málaga experienced a real golden age, as evidenced by its Roman Theater and other important archaeological remains and its status as a confederate city governed by its own laws: the Lex Flavia Malacitana.
A long period of decadence followed the fall of the Empire of Rome and in the year 571 the city was subjected to the domination of Visigoth king Leovigildo.
In the year 711, Tarik, lieutenant of the governor of northern Ifriquiya (Africa) Muza ben Nusayr, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar (Yebel-Tarik) at the head of nearly 10,000 men and undertook the conquest of the entire Peninsula -which he achieved in just five years-, more by knowing how to convince of the idea of a new credo and a renovating lifestyle than by winning by force of arms. In that year Malaga became Muslim and a new period in its history began to last for eight centuries. Its lands were occupied by Yemenis, Berbers, Arabs from the south, Muladis (Spaniards converted to the new religion), Mozarabs (Christians keeping and continuing to practice their religion) and Jews.

MALAGA CITY TOUR – One of the most beautiful cities in Spain!

Málaga is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, located on the Southern West coast of the peninsula, is close to the border with Portugal. It is one of the most populated areas of Spain and forms the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, together with some other great places like Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Cadiz

Malaga is known for its music. There’s an enormous selection of music bars and cafes, and no shortage of nightclubs either. Plaza de Uncibay is home to most of Malagan nightlife, including the area near the Cathedral of Malaga and the streets around the square.

You may be surprised about how compact Malaga’s historic center is. Most of the main tourist attractions in Malaga are within walking distance of each other, and most of the historic center is car-free, making it great for strolling.

Málaga is a municipality, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain. With a population of 571,026 in 2018, it is the second-most populous city of Andalusia and the sixth-largest in Spain.

Known for its stunning beaches, culture, and food, Málaga is one of the most visited coastal cities in Andalusia, Spain. It’s a go-to destination for travellers wanting to spend summer in Spain and can become busy during the warmer (hot) months.

Malaga City, gateway to southern Spain and the Costa del Sol, birthplace of Picasso and boasting one of the best climates in Europe. Underrated for so many years, Malaga City is now justifiably one of Spain’s hottest cultural, gastronomic and leisure destinations.

The city’s eclectic mix of Moorish, Renaissance and Modernist cultural landmarks are all within walking distance. The vibrant streets of the old town, the uber cool area of SOHO, where some of the world’s most important urban artists have left their mark, the super modern Muelle Uno port, with its Michelin star restaurants, cocktail bars and fashion boutiques, and no less than 15 golden sand beaches within the city limit, all come together to create a destination of excellence.

Malaga history
The urban metropolis is one of the oldest cities in the world, dating back to 770 bc. Originally a Phoenician settlement, called Malaka. Throughout the centuries it was occupied by the Carthaginians, Romans and Arab Maurer, until 1487 when it was conquered by the Christians.

More than 600,000 ‘Malagueños’ reside in this luminous Mediterranean city and in recent years the city has grown popular with foreign expats. Youngsters from all over the world come to Malaga to learn Spanish, many opting to stay on and live in the city. It’s now a melting pot of nationalities, although, unlike many of its Costa del Sol counterparts, Malaga City has managed to retain its rich Andalusian culture.
