The Port of Málaga (Puerto de Málaga) is a historic international seaport on Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast. Located along the Costa del Sol, it is considered one of the oldest ports in the Mediterranean and is widely recognized as Spain’s oldest continuously operating port. Today, it serves as an important hub for tourism and maritime activity, welcoming cruise ships and luxury yachts throughout the year.

The Centre Pompidou Málaga, located in the distinctive El Cubo structure near the port, is a branch of France’s Georges Pompidou National Center of Art and Culture. The museum showcases modern and contemporary art through semi-permanent exhibitions, offering visitors a thematic and chronological journey through the art of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Muelle Uno and Quay 2 form a bustling waterfront area filled with shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, and leisure spaces. Visitors can enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere while exploring the Paseo de Muelle Uno and its striking Pérgola Zigzagueante, recognized for its distinctive zigzag-shaped canopy. The waterfront is also a popular docking area for cruise ships and luxury yachts.

Another iconic landmark is La Farola de Málaga, the historic lighthouse completed around 1817. It has become one of the city’s most recognizable symbols and gives its name to the surrounding promenade. With its combination of history, culture, shopping, dining, and scenic views, Málaga’s port is one of the city’s most attractive areas to explore.

Our First Time in Málaga | 36 Hours in Andalusia's Seaside Capital

36 Hours in Málaga: one of the oldest cities in Europe (older than Rome!), the birthplace of Picasso, and the seaside capital of Andalusia. From a 2,000-year-old Roman theatre to beach dining and a sunset cruise, this is everything we managed to fit in.

🌊 Málaga used to be just the airport people landed at before exploring Andalusia… now it’s a destination in its own right, and we can see why.

We spent a day and a half exploring Málaga’s historic landmarks, eating our way through its markets and beach chiringuitos, and finishing with a sunset cruise from the harbor.

Along the way we share what’s worth your time (and what you can skip), where the locals actually eat, and whether Málaga deserves more than a layover on your Andalusia trip.
