Walking Tour of Torremolinos (Spain) | From Town Center to the Beach via Cuesta del Tajo
In this walk, we’ll begin our walk in the heart of Torremolinos and make our way down to the beach and promenade by one of the most traditional and charming paths: the Cuesta del Tajo.
This route, filled with local shops and history, connects the bustling town center with the relaxed coastal atmosphere. Once at the bottom, we’ll enjoy the sea breeze, the views of Bajondillo Beach, and the laid-back vibe of the promenade.

Torremolinos, located on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain, was once a quiet fishing village before transforming into one of the first major tourist destinations in the region during the mid-20th century. Its development began in the 1950s when the town attracted international travelers seeking sun, sea, and a new sense of freedom, including celebrities, artists, and bohemians. Today, Torremolinos is known for its long sandy beaches like La Carihuela and Bajondillo, the scenic Paseo Marítimo, and the charming old town with its Andalusian-style streets and local markets. Attractions such as the Molino de Inca botanical gardens, the Casa de los Navajas with its neo-Mudejar architecture, and the crocodile park offer cultural and family-friendly experiences. The town also celebrates vibrant festivals like the Feria de San Miguel and the Romería. Torremolinos used to be a small fishing village now turned into a large densely-populated town committed to sun and sand tourism that showcases large beaches and facilities related to it.
The origins and name derive from a watchtower (torre) and the mills (molinos) built there to grind wheat, positioned perpendicularly to the ocean in order to harness the hydraulic power generated by the water flowing into it.
Boasting an enviable mix of green spaces, cultural sights and coastal views, Torremolinos is an ideal destination for your next summer holiday. More than just warm Mediterranean coastline, the resort region has a rich blend of family activities as well as a beating nightlife for young travellers.
Kitesurfing is restricted to the easternmost area of the beach and occurs in the low season as in high season all the beaches are very crowded with sunbathers. Yellow buoys are present, marking the limits to which powered craft may come near the beach and the airport located nearby.
At the seaside, there are the usual rentals available of bicycles, mopeds, electric scooters, jets skis, surf boards, parasailing, sailing, paddle, ski boats and snorkelling.
