La Carihuela, in the province of Málaga, Spain. It is an old fishing neighborhood located to the southwest of the municipality of Torremolinos, along the beach of La Carihuela.
According to different versions, the name of La Carihuela can be translated as a fishing village. Due to the difference in heights with the central nucleus of Torremolinos, of about 30 meters, La Carihuela underwent an independent evolution to the town of Torremolinos and its milling industry. Its inhabitants subsisted on the fruits of the sea until the explosion of the tourist boom in the 1950s, when the development of restaurant businesses began, based mainly on fish and especially fried fish. La Carihuela then had a fishing fleet of about forty boats.
Formerly, the neighborhood of La Carihuela was made up of a row of small houses and shacks on one level, the kind that still remain on Calle Los Perros. In 1948, the El Remo nightclub was inaugurated and the construction of hotels began on the orchards in the area, followed by promotions of apartments and new homes. Some of the hotels are: Hotel Miami, Hotel Pez Espada (1957), Hotel Carihuela Palace (1960), Hotel Tropicana (1961), Hotel Tres Carabelas (1962), and Hotel Montemar.
Places of interest in the neighborhood are the promenade and the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

Torremolinos is a bustling town along the Costa del Sol with plenty of beaches, bars, restaurants, and shops to choose from. It’s one of Spain’s most popular holiday destinations and is where the Costa del Sol’s first hotels opened up. There’s plenty of history to be found in Torremolinos. Prior to becoming a tourist hotspot in the 1950s, Torremolinos was a fishing village with a very long history dating back to the time of the Romans.
Old Town Torremolinos is the heart of this coastal town and oozes charm and character. The top of Torremolinos old town can be reached by steps (approx 200) or there is a lift which costs just 50 cents. The lift runs from 8am to 11pm
