Málaga is located in the south of the Mediterranean coast, between the provinces of Granada and Cadiz, and bordering the provinces of Cordoba and Seville in the north. In long-gone times it bore witness to the history of man and of the Mediterranean culture, and is today the primary force in the Andalusian tourist industry, keeping alive its tradition of a welcoming and creative land.

The town known as “Malaka” by the Phoenicians was transformed into a prosperous commercial centre. After the Muslim invasion of the 8th century, the territory became Arabised and later became part of the Nasrid kingdom in Granada, when it underwent a new period of commercial and cultural prominence.

Málaga underwent rapid economic growth in the second half of the 20th century, thanks to the tourism industry. Every year millions of citizens from all over the world choose this idyllic land to relax on its sun-drenched beaches, discover its rich architectural heritage or explore the wild beauty of its mountain geography.

The province of Málaga has over 160 kilometres of coastline. A total of 14 districts are located directly on the Mediterranean Sea. You can find secluded enclaves set in unspoilt nature, as well as more established tourist resorts. The beaches in both the eastern and the western part of the province are so attractive they have made the Costa del Sol one of the top international destinations.

Here are some things to do in Málaga City:
1. Visit Teatro Romano de Málaga and Alcazaba (The Fortress)
2. Explore museums such Museo Carmen Thyssen, Museo Picasso and more!
3. Check out Málaga Cathedral and appreciate its beauty inside and out

5. Go shopping at the famous Calle Marqués de Larios (Larios street)

Last minute new DANA, live: red alert from AEMET in Malaga and Tarragona due to heavy rain.

Classes have been suspended in more than a hundred towns in the Valencian Community, in the five regions of Tarragona and in all the towns of the province of Malaga.

The regions of eight autonomous communities are under warning this Wednesday of rain, storms, wind, snow or rough seas, with heavy rainfall in several places in the Mediterranean area due to the arrival of new DANA.

The forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) indicate the presence of a red alert – extreme risk – due to very heavy and continuous rain on the southern coast of Tarragona and the provincial area of ​​Malaga . In addition, there is an orange alert – significant risk – in various regions of the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands and Catalonia .

La Carihuela is a town found in Torremolinos. An old seafaring neighborhood located to the west, most specifically in the south-west part of the town. It is a good place to walk because of its wide promenade where you can reach El Bajondillo until Los Álamos on one side, or Benalmádena Puerto Marina on the other.

The inhabitants of La Carihuela originally lived off the fruits of the sea: the delicious fish and shellfish provided by the Mediterranean at the extremes of Málaga Bay. However, the growth in tourism form the 1950s paved way to new possibilities – with restaurants and chiringuitos (local beach restaurants) opened where locals and tourists could enjoy the fresh fish.

Although the town has been modernised, the original essence of La Carihuela still remains today and that can be seen through the traditional shops and narrow alleys that are typical in Andalucía. The town also offers a wide variety of quality fish dishes, a gastronomy experience that must not be missed.
