Torremolinos used to be a fishing village before the growth of tourism in the area began in the late 1950s. It was the first of the Costa del Sol resorts to be developed and is considered the most popular in the region.

Costa del Sol enjoys one of the best climates in Europe. It has long, dry summers with relatively low humidity and mild winters with occasional rainfall.

The beach extends for nearly 8 kilometers (5 miles) and has cycle and skating lanes alongside the fully lit`promenade with chiringuitos and beach bars.
