Carihuela beach is a must-visit spot. It is a beach with a multitude of services of all kinds where highly attractive leisure activities are organised during the summer.

La Carihuela in Torremolinos is an old seafaring neighbourhood to the west, specifically in the south-west of the town. A good place to start a walk along the seaside can be reached by heading to Plaza del Remo. If you walk west, you’ll arrive at Puerto Marina in Benalmádena. If you choose the eastern route, you’ll enjoy numerous shops and restaurants in La Carihuela, admire la Punta or el Morro de Torremolinos, the natural monument which splits the Paseo Marítimo in two, and enjoy the other beaches until arriving at the end of Los Álamos. A pleasant and relaxing experience next to the sea.
The inhabitants of La Carihuela originally lived off the fruits of the sea: the tasty fish and shellfish offered by the Mediterranean at this extreme of Málaga Bay. However, the growth in tourism from the 1950s onwards opened new possibilities, chiefly with restaurants and chiringuitos (beach restaurants) where locals and tourists could enjoy the fishing catch.
Today the area has been modernized but it retains a large part of its original essence, with traditional shops and narrow lanes evocative of the traditional street layout so typical of Andalucía. A stroll that can be garnish with some of the best gastronomy in town, the high point being the quality of the fried fish.

Torremolinos, an old fishing village located just 13 kilometres from Málaga is, today, a fantastic holiday destination if you’re looking for nice beaches, an excellent climate, good food and buzzing nightlife. This town has more than 68,000 inhabitants, 15,000 of which are foreigners who’ve been seduced by its charms.
In the fifties, a key decade for Torremolinos, it became one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol. It enticed numerous foreigners, who were attracted by the town’s liberal character. Intellectuals of the time, artists and lots of members of the jet set enjoyed the sun during the day, and the animated evenings. This was the time of the famous cultural movement “movida malagueña.” Today, its nightlife is still legendary, thanks to the variety of beach bars and clubs where you can keep partying until dawn, most especially during the summer.
The Calle de San Miguel is the beating heart of the city where everything happens. It is a pedestrianised street lined with shops, which—at its end—gives out onto the promenade and the Playa de Bajondillo. Taking a stroll along San Miguel, you’ll come across the Molino de la Torre, a tower built in the fourteenth century, from which the guards of the Kingdom of Granada were defending the city, keeping guard from the excellent vantage point at the top of a cliff, protecting the city against the possible enemies who could attack from the sea. Today, it’s known as the Torre de Pimentel.
Lots of people say that Torremolinos has some of the best beaches in Málaga, thanks to both their length and their sand. One of the best known is the Playa del Bajondillo, located in the neighbourhood which it takes its name from, between Playamar and Playa de la Carihuela. 40 metres wide and more than a kilometre long, this beach is one of the most frequently visited thanks to how close it is to the city centre, and how easy it is to access.
The other most popular beach in Torremolinos is La Carihuela, which is 2,100 metres long, and is also 40 metres wide. It is said to be the best urban beach in Málaga, thanks to its clean waters and fine sand. In the past, dozens of fishermen lived in this area, going out to sea every day. These days, the restaurants or beach bars right on the shore—serving fried fish, gazpacho, and other delicacies from Málaga—are hugely popular with visitors. If you prefer, you can also enjoy its wide seaside promenade, perfect for a day of shopping, and bursting with restaurants and clubs.
