  1. What a good holiday!! A bit of history: You know that Torremolinos was the pioneer in beach tourism in Spain. The Pez Espada Hotel, in La Carihuela, was the first five-star hotel on the Costa del Sol, built in 1959, it was the greatest exponent of the golden age of the Costa del Sol. It has had illustrious clients or visitors such as Humberto II of Italy, King Feisal, Baudouin of Belgium, Empress Soraya of Persia, Princes Rainier and Grace, the Dukes of Windsor, the King of Belgium Albert II, Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra , Ava Gardner, Mary Pickford, Ingrid Bergman, Rock Hudson, Sofía Loren, Carlo Ponti, Kim Novak, Orson Welles, Boris Karloff, Raf Vallone, Marlon Brando, Peter Ustinov, Anthony Quinn, Trevor Howard, Claudia Cardinale, Raquel Welch, Xavier Cugat, Brigitte Bardot, the Argentine General Perón or the Barons of Rotschild, among others.

    Among the events held at the hotel, it is worth noting that in 1966/67 the prestigious dressmaker Nina Ricci presented her Autumn-Winter haute couture collection in her salons, where prestigious singers such as Julio Iglesias, Antonio Machín, Raphael, Joan Manuel have also performed. Serrat, Rita Pavone or Massiel, among others.

    During the Franco dictatorship, Torremolinos was an oasis of freedom and was the only place in Spain where topless was allowed, the homosexual world was not repressed … At the time it was known as the place of 3 S: Sul, sea and sex.

    Even now, the downtown area (the part of the train station) is a world center for gay tourism, and on the beach it has its exponent in the "Chirnguito Eden". The Carihuela area (where the Pez Espada Hotel is) is for pensioner and family tourism, although there is everything everywhere.

    In the 50s, 60s and 70s Torremolinos lived its best years. People say that in Torremolinos "the future has already passed". Wealthy tourism, celebrities, actors, kings, princes … Now it is a mass place and in many cases low cost. Thanks for sharing
