In 2010, Málaga CF were taken over by the Qatari royal Sheikh Abdullah, promising to disrupt the dominance of Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga.
Within two years, Malaga rose to fourth in the La Liga table and reached the quarter finals of the Champions League – but in 2018, they were relegated, and the club now find themselves in the bottom half of the Segunda Division table.
In this documentary, HITC Sevens takes a look at Sheikh Abdullah, Malaga’s rise and fall, and ultimately where it all went wrong.

I am a Malaga fan and this video was so sad…
I think the saudis will buy inter and pull the rug on the mags.
This video comes across as a tad xenophobic/racist
Great video! Only correction: Pellegrini is Chilean, not Argentine
do a video like this for everton, everton are now in 16th place could be relegated for the first time since 1954
Always fascinated me that Malaga's shirt sponsor was UNESCO at this time!
It could be worse they are lucky not to play in the Greek league with a name like that, to translate into Spanish Pajero FC !
as a proud saudi, sometimes the royal family makes me ashamed of my heritage.
Day 3 of asking for what on earth is going on at dinamo bucharest

Top 7 biggest clubs that have never played in Europe
@HITC Sevens For your what on earth is going on series, are you planning to do a video on Birmingham City. I remember around ten years ago they won the carabao cup, and are now in a relegation battle in the championship.
The thing with Málaga was that they got rid of a lot of their star players and slowly decended into the 2nd league. I remember when they were flying and looked like a decent team but then they just got worse and worse 🤷♂️
I SHOULD KNOW SINCE I'VE LIVED THERE THROUGHOUT THIS ERA AND IT'S BEEN PAINFUL 🥲
Very good, but Málaga's nickname is Los Boquerones and Manuel Pellegrini is Chilean, not Argentine
Alfie this video is well done, and while I like most of your takes, I think it’s a bit naive to suggest owners like Abdullah Al Thani and the Allam’s wouldn’t just siphon the additional funds from a “fairer” money distribution deal into their pockets, I legitimately don’t believe many clubs would see a penny of it and that’s why these deals don’t happen. The owners of the bigger clubs want the money for them and their clubs, but as long as they have the argument of crooked owners below them on the chain they’ll have a leg to stand on, I think we need to get certain owners out before we have a chance of seeing a fairer distribution.
the intro 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Blatant xenophobia lmao nothing said of the white colonizer blood money that other old guard clubs have
Pellegrini is Chilean
Went to a Malaga vs Athletico Madrid match a few years ago, Great atmosphere
Finally someone spoke of them
