  8. The thing with mass ‘retiree migration’ is that they bring their lifestyle with them…

    … what I mean is you get those beautiful villages destroyed by “gated community” style residential development that need car infrastructure and roads, absorbing the residents’ budget that could be used for the village infrastructures.

    We’re making too much places for cars. They come in mass during the day to benefit from the services, complaining about the parking, while being a pest to local residents who just can’t walk in those small streets.

    Anyhow… my car rant of the day…

  17. You’ve made an excellent, accurate video. We live on top of the first line of hills in Calahonda and love it. I have a special affection for Nerja. It strikes a good balance between tourist fantasy and a true working town. There is also a really good comida casera shop in town, where an entire meal costs around €9?

  18. I love Madrid and have always dreamed of returning there to retire since I lived in Madrid three times in my 20s and early 30s. But I realize that there are so many more scenic areas in Spain with a more relaxed atmosphere and milder climate. And if you don’t live near the Retiro Park and frequent the Prado and Sol and the Plaza Mayor and so many other iconic areas in Madrid, you really just live in a crowded, often hot urban center. I still love Madrid, but as Yoli said overlooking the hillside homes in Frigiliana , “I always wonder about a life like that, and
    then I go back to my apartment in Madrid”.

  19. With climate heating, temperatures are getting hotter. Lots of plants cool down the street a lot. Temps in Paris could reach 50C by 2050, hotter in Spain. 🥵
