Trip Review – Torremolinos on the Costa Del Sol. As bad as you imagine?

40 years after my first and only visit to Torremolinos, I decided to stay there again on my recent trip to Malaga. I could have stayed in Malaga itself, but I was interested to see whether a resort famous for its packaged beach holidays could offer something to a single traveller staying for just a few days.

And dear viewer, I quite liked it! It was very pleasant to wander around the old town, to stroll along the beach and to sip a cleansing ale in the sun.

  1. I was there 3 times did like it but sea can get dirty and not so nice. Hotel Isabel was good. I would not go again because Spain has so much to offer. My next visit is going to be Valencia. Greetings from cold Canada.

  2. Very interesting! Thank you very much for sharing ☺️. I'm going there on Christmas. Any suggestions?

  3. Next time try these bars for tapas: el Pórtico, Antoxo, la Campana, la Bodeguita, Bar Guerola, Bodega Quitapenas… you were just unlucky; McJamon is the worst/cheapest option in town.

  4. Another great video. Something that might surprise you is that Torremolinos is 'the' gay destination in southern Spain – it's centre is in the old town but it doesn't come alive until late with 20+ venues so it's not obvious. It's definitely not the sleepy town that you might think, you can stay up until dawn and get into all sorts of mischief if that's your thing! 😀

  5. Very interesting Matt. My wife and I had our honeymoon in Costa Brava and outside of a day in Barcelona haven't really explored Spain (although beaches in Portugal are awesome). You used to live in San Diego so you will know what I mean but having grown up in Orange County around Huntington Beach I seem to always be disappointed by what Europe has to offer. But it looked lovely and I think the beach and train option into the City makes it an appealing trip that I'll definitely add to my list! Outside of the AvGeek videos, these are my favourite so grateful for this content Matt!

  6. Interesting vlog Matt, thanks! Hard to believe the water was chilly… For chilly water, try Chile (even in the summer when the sand burns the soles of your feet and the water promptly freezes your bones)!

  7. … but it can't do toast.
P.S. Interesting to see everyone masked-up. Spain's COVID infection rate is running at about a tenth of the maskless UK's. Looking at a dozen holiday options – and factoring in both medical and ease-of-travel parameters – it is Spain that is coming out tops. I suspect that the Canaries will get a ton of winter sun business in the next few months.

  8. I'm a Malaga fan and would rather be based there; as mostly authentic Spanish and offers much history. Torremolinos has historic 60&70's package break memories to be explored again but the city base offers more. Malaga is much overlooked as a destination and a significant Spanish City (despite all that cheap flight capacity flying in!). I've taken the train down to Fuengirola but Torremolinos would be my preference between the two for a nearby coastal resort break.

  9. That was a different video Matt really liked it, you just showed it the way it is not what the brochure wants shoe you.
